Formic Habitat: Mars colony

Formic Habitat is a speculative Mars colony inspired by the environmental intelligence of termite mounds. Using biomimicry, the project translates passive ventilation, thermal regulation, and structural efficiency into a sustainable habitat for extreme planetary conditions.

The colony is designed as a network of interconnected chambers rather than a single building, supporting collective living and functional zoning. Thick porous walls protect against radiation, dust storms, and temperature extremes, while chimney-like towers enable natural airflow. Partially embedded into the Martian surface and constructed from local regolith, the modular system allows the settlement to grow organically over time, presenting a biologically informed vision for future life on Mars.
