Insectarium

Insectarium is a pavilion design that rethinks how insects are studied, observed, and understood. Traditional archives and preserved collections allow for classification and close inspection but sacrifice the ability to witness natural behavior. This project proposes an alternative: a semi-wild, self-sustaining architectural environment where insects can live and interact naturally while remaining observable to human visitors.

Inspired by microhabitats, biomimicry, and entomology, the pavilion functions as a controlled environmental replica rather than a fully curated vivarium. The design minimizes human intervention, allowing ecological processes to unfold organically within contained conditions. This approach ensures continuous observation while preserving authenticity in behavior, movement, and interaction.
The pavilion serves both as a refuge for diverse insect species and as an educational space for people. By bringing elements of the wild into an accessible architectural framework, the project removes barriers of safety, accessibility, and inconsistency that often limit encounters with insects in nature. Ultimately, Natural Habitat promotes coexistence, environmental literacy, and a deeper appreciation for non-human life through immersive spatial design.
